Chief Mechanical Design Engineer

 Location:  Cambridgeshire

 Salary indication:  Experienced design engineer with 10 years relevant experience £40,000 to £50,000

 Purpose of the Job

The Chief Mechanical Design Engineer (CE) will take a leading role in the design guidance for all engineered solutions. Working closely with the Technical Manager the CE will both work on his own design projects and assist the other design engineers develop efficient, cost effective, accurate, low risk engineering specifications which are completed on time and with the allocated hours. Output will include, engineering models and drawings, parts lists, data sheets and other specifications as required.

Necessary skills and qualifications

• Good relevant engineering knowledge, with the ability to discuss all technical aspects of the project
• Good CAD skills, AutoCad and Inventor
• Ability to perform accurately engineering calculations
• Design experience of fabricated structures and machined components
• Excellent ability to communicate in English, technical matters
• Must be able to discuss, negotiate and resolve problems
• Highly organised, with the ability to develop alternative solutions to problems
• Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers
• Willing to travel overseas and work in all types of industrial plant, must have UK driving license
• Must be able to lead and motivate a team of design engineers
• Keen to share knowledge, to learn and develop new skills
• Good general computer skills, particularly Excel
• Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team

 Useful but not essential for all positions

• Good engineering degree
• Leadership experience
• Structural design experience both long hand and using software
• Knowledge of hydraulic components and systems
• Some materials handling knowledge
• Knowledge of Baan or other manufacturing systems
