Engineering/ Project Manager

Location – Leicestershire

Duration – Permanent

Salary - £40k-£50k (DOE)  

A Mechanical Engineer with comprehensive Project Management experience.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with the Chief Technical Officer, the candidate’s primary function will be to generate the mechanical system concepts for the company’s new products and customised one-off contracts.  The PM will also be responsible for managing specified projects to ensure that they are completed on-time and on-budget and meet the overall requirements of the customer in terms of quality, functionality and performance.

 Duties and Responsibilities – Engineering

  • Work closely with the Sales Director and the Chief Technical Officer in defining the specification and estimation of costs for new products and systems;
  • Generate the mechanical system design concepts to meet the Customer’s requirements specification;
  • To work closely with approved subcontractors to generate detailed mechanical designs;
  • Work closely with approved subcontractors and the Company’s manufacturing group to ensure timely and accurate build of products and subsystems;
  • When appropriate, assist in the integration, test, evaluation, fault finding and commissioning of new products and systems;
  • Seek and identify additional opportunities for the Company within the Customer’s site;

 Duties and Responsibilities – Project Management

  • Define for each specified project a plan of the deliverables, resource requirements and work plan for the project and manage their development and delivery;
  • Ensure that project management issues are communicated to the project team and senior management in a timely manner throughout the course of each project;
  • Work closely with the customer’s management and engineering teams to understand the business requirement for the project, developing effective working relationships and ongoing management processes for the project;
  • Ensure projects meet industry and customer specific safety and quality standards;
  • Achieve the delivery of each of the project milestones in terms of:
    • Technology;
    • Quality;
    • Safety;
    • Schedule;
    • Finance;
    • Contract / legal / regulatory;
  • Manage, monitor and motivate the multi-disciplined team assigned to the project;
  • Conduct regular project meetings and compile reports for both project and Company management.

Means of Assessment

  • Effectiveness of project team to deliver projects on time on budget and to the quality required;
  • Achievement of project milestones and management of contract variances;
  • Quality of the delivered project measured in terms of after-sales complaints / compliments;
  • Quality of designs and ‘right-first-time’ prototypes;
  • Quality and reliability of quotations.

 Skills / Attributes Required

  • Enthusiastic “can-do” attitude;
  • A proven track record of successful mechanical design in an instrumentation or inspection environment;
  • A proven track record of project implementation and management in a multidiscipline environment;
  • Excellent client facing and communication skills;
  • Experience of the whole project life cycle including initial conceptual design stage through to installation and commissioning and at each stage in between;
  • Experience of overseeing mechanical design;
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Project, Excel, Word (Prince 2 would be beneficial);
  • The ability to foster motivation within the project team to meet tight deadlines.
