Design Engineer

An established engineering company with over 30 years of experience, proudly serving an enviable client base and delivering high-quality manufactured products for both national and international infrastructure projects.

Due to continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Design Engineer to join the team based at our Yaxley office in Peterborough.

The Role

As a Design Engineer, you will work on a variety of projects — ranging from one-off component designs to complex, long-term assignments spanning several months or years. Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for tunnel construction, support, and ventilation.

• Prepare detailed 2D and 3D models, technical drawings, and specifications using CAD software.

• Collaborate with project teams to deliver fit-for-purpose and cost-effective design solutions.

• Liaising with engineers and designers to understand design requirements and provide technical advice to manufacturing technicians.

• Creating high-quality, detailed technical drawings and plans based on designs supplied by the engineering team.

• Modifying existing designs to meet updated specifications or improve functionality.

• Ensuring all drawings are compliant with industry regulations, as well as health and safety standards and client protocols.

• Applying value engineering principles to designs wherever possible.

• Creating and maintaining accurate design documentation.

The Person

We’re looking for a proactive, detail-oriented individual who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have:

• A strong ability to interpret and create accurate engineering drawings and specifications.

• Proficiency in CAD software. SolidWorks – AutoCAD.

• Commercial awareness and a solid understanding of industry best practices and standards.

• Good computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office — including Excel (ability to create formulae, spreadsheets, etc.).

• Excellent time management and multitasking abilities, with a proven track record of managing multiple projects independently.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

• Willingness and ability to travel for client and site visits when required. • Solid problem-solving skills and a solutions-focused mindset.

• A team-oriented attitude with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.

• Strong understanding of mechanical systems used in underground construction.

• Experience in structural and mechanical analysis (e.g., FEA) is desirable.

Salary up to £40k +Benefits.
