An established and growing manufacturer of specialist equipment for the food production industry is seeking a Trainee Project Engineer to join their expanding Projects Team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual looking to develop their skills within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

You’ll be part of a supportive and experienced team, gaining hands-on experience in delivering engineering projects from start to finish — from initial scope and planning through to installation and customer handover.

The Job

As a Trainee Project Engineer, you’ll work closely with senior project engineers to support and deliver engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the development of project scope with sales and engineering teams
  • Helping to create and update project schedules (e.g., Gantt charts)
  • Preparing technical documentation, including layout drawings, BOMs, and specifications
  • Supporting the sourcing and specification of equipment and components
  • Coordinating equipment delivery, logistics, and site installation plans
  • Assisting with Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
  • Preparing export documentation and Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Supporting customer training and documentation handover
  • Gaining insight into project budgets and cost monitoring

The Person

We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in engineering and a desire to learn and grow in a project-focused role.

Essential:

  • Strong interest in engineering and technical project work
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Proactive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Good organisation and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with MS Project or AutoCAD
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering principles
  • Full UK driving licence or intention to obtain one
  • Willingness to travel (including overnight and international trips as needed)
