Trainee Project Engineer
Location: Office-based – Great Gransden (with occasional UK and international travel)

An established and growing manufacturer of specialist equipment for the food production industry is seeking a Trainee Project Engineer to join their expanding Projects Team. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual looking to develop their skills within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
You’ll be part of a supportive and experienced team, gaining hands-on experience in delivering engineering projects from start to finish — from initial scope and planning through to installation and customer handover.
The Job
As a Trainee Project Engineer, you’ll work closely with senior project engineers to support and deliver engineering projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the development of project scope with sales and engineering teams
- Helping to create and update project schedules (e.g., Gantt charts)
- Preparing technical documentation, including layout drawings, BOMs, and specifications
- Supporting the sourcing and specification of equipment and components
- Coordinating equipment delivery, logistics, and site installation plans
- Assisting with Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
- Preparing export documentation and Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS)
- Supporting customer training and documentation handover
- Gaining insight into project budgets and cost monitoring
The Person
We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in engineering and a desire to learn and grow in a project-focused role.
Essential:
- Strong interest in engineering and technical project work
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Proactive attitude and a willingness to learn
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Desirable:
- Familiarity with MS Project or AutoCAD
- Basic knowledge of mechanical or electrical engineering principles
- Full UK driving licence or intention to obtain one
- Willingness to travel (including overnight and international trips as needed)
